Privacy Policy
Railside (“Railside,” “we,” “our,” or “the app”) is an independent iPhone app that shows live and scheduled U.S. passenger rail information. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app does and does not handle when you use it. Railside is not affiliated with or endorsed by Amtrak or any rail carrier.
The short version
- No account. You don’t sign up, log in, or give us a name, email, or phone number to use Railside.
- No ads, no trackers, no data brokers. We do not sell, rent, or share your information for advertising.
- Your data stays on your device. Saved trips, your home station, and your Passport history live on your iPhone, not on our servers.
Information we do not collect
Railside does not require an account and does not ask you for personally identifying information such as your name, email address, phone number, or contacts. We do not maintain user profiles and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs that track you across apps or websites.
Information stored on your device
To do its job, Railside saves your preferences and activity locally on your iPhone, including:
- Trips and trains you choose to save or follow
- Your home station and stations you add
- Your Passport history (completed trips, miles, and timing)
- App settings and preferences
This information is stored on your device and, where you enable it, may sync through your own Apple iCloud account under Apple’s terms. It is removed when you delete the app (local data) or delete it from iCloud. We do not have access to it.
Information used to deliver live data
When you view live train or station information, the app requests data from rail data sources (such as Amtrak feeds and GTFS schedule data) and our supporting service. These network requests necessarily include technical information such as your device’s IP address and the specific train or station you are viewing, which is used only to return the requested information. We do not use this information to build an advertising profile of you.
Location
If you grant location access, Railside uses your location on your device to show nearby stations and trains. Your precise location is not required to use the app, and we do not store or transmit your location history to our servers. You can change location permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Diagnostics
If you opt in to share diagnostics and usage data with app developers through iOS Settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash and performance reports to help us improve stability. This data is not linked to your identity.
Children’s privacy
Railside is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Third-party services
Railside relies on rail data providers and on Apple’s platform services (such as the App Store and, optionally, iCloud). Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Railside after an update means you accept the revised policy.

Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Railside app. By downloading, installing, or using Railside, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The service
Railside provides live and scheduled U.S. passenger rail information for your convenience. It is an informational companion only. Railside is not a ticketing, booking, or reservation service, and it does not sell or manage rail tickets.
No guarantee of accuracy
Live and scheduled data is provided “as is” and is sourced from third parties. Train status, estimated times, delays, platforms, and cancellations can change without notice and may be inaccurate, delayed, or unavailable. Do not rely solely on Railside for travel decisions. Always confirm critical details with the rail carrier directly. Railside is not responsible for missed trains, connections, or any losses arising from reliance on the information shown.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except where permitted by law;
- Scrape, overload, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app or its data sources.
Intellectual property
Railside and its original content, design, and branding are owned by us and protected by applicable law. Amtrak® and other carrier names and marks are the property of their respective owners. Railside is an independent app and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Amtrak or any rail carrier. Schedule data is provided via GTFS feeds.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Railside is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app.
Apple App Store terms
Railside is licensed, not sold, to you for use only under these Terms. If you obtained Railside from the Apple App Store, your license is also subject to Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA), available atapple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and is not a party to these Terms, but is a third-party beneficiary entitled to enforce them.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Railside after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
